Rural entrepreneurs benefit from CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s initiative
The initiative to bring local products produced in the state’s rural areas to the national and global markets is now transforming into a strong business model. “House of Himalayas,” an umbrella brand created through the hard work of Uttarakhand’s rural women, has recorded a turnover of approximately ₹6 crore (approximately $60 million) since its inception.
The House of Himalayas initiative gained national recognition when Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally launched the brand during the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit held in Dehradun in December 2023. The Prime Minister described it as an effort to advance the concept of ‘vocal for local’ and ‘local for global’.
Under the brand, products associated with the local identity of Uttarakhand are launched in the market with modern packaging, improved quality and integrated branding. Currently, a total of 83 products, including 60 exclusive products, are included in this brand. These include categories like hill pulses, grains, spices, honey, oil, herbal and personal care products, along with handicrafts. Categories like millets, pulses, rice, oil-ghee, spices, honey, herbal products, bakery, personal care and handicrafts are also available on the official brand website.
A key aspect of House of Himalayas is its women-centric livelihood model. Approximately 5,500 direct female beneficiaries, affiliated with 55 cluster-level federations, are directly involved in the brand’s economic activities. This means that not only are the products produced in the mountains finding a market, but the benefits are also directly reaching rural women.

House of Himalayas’ reach is no longer limited to the local market. Consumers can purchase its products on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. House of Himalayas products are also available through Quick Commerce on Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket. The brand’s own D2C website also offers direct shopping across the country. Furthermore, the brand’s products are also available in international markets like the US and Canada through Amazon Global.
House of Himalayas is an important initiative to bring Uttarakhand’s local products to national and international markets. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “From Local to Global,” this brand provides international markets for the products of the state’s women, farmers, and rural entrepreneurs. Our goal is to provide global markets for products produced in Uttarakhand’s villages, directly benefiting the economies of our women self-help groups and local producers.
